John Wooden passes away – A few thoughts on the legendary man

The Wizard of Westwood has left us after living for 99 years due to natural causes. В It is a sad time for us to lose such a special person, but Coach has left a very lasting impact.

In todays business world, the culture has influenced us that to believe that make it to the top you have to be cut-throat andВ vicious. В Good guys don’t make it to the top.

Coach proved to us that our world doesn’t work that way. В His morals and work-ethic showed that the key is to find the right way to do things. В The best way to do things.

He dominated college basketball like no other team in history. В He had figured out how to do it, and continuously kept on doing it. В If his message and plan was cut-throat, his players would not have been able to sustain it for 10 straight national championships.

As much as I like Bob Knight, Wooden’s demeanor seemed to be the exact opposite. В I feel that Wooden and Phil Jackson have a lot in common that have made both so successful. В Both believe in being extremely well prepared. В I wonder if Wooden would not call timeouts during bad stretches in games so that his team could figure it out on its own.

PJ is all about “Zen” and the loyalty, poise, confidence that comes along with it. В Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success” has many of the same characteristics that he believed that every person should strive to attain. В Still, Wooden was the purist of the pure, and Phil or anyone else for that matter has a long way to go to ever be at the level of the Wizard.
