Biggest deal ever for NFL rookie? 2 words…Cam Newton

by on Feb.14, 2011, under ALL, NCAAF, NFL

I couldn’t see Cam Newton wearing any other big name apparel besides Under Armour. I mean, a Nike “check” logo would look good on him, but Under Armour seems to suit him well, just as he sported them with his Auburn Uniforms. Apparently Under Armour thinks so as well, according to Darren Rovell of CNBC, Under Amour has just signed the Heisman Trophy winner. Not bad for a smaller company that probably had to have a bidding war with Apparel giants Nike and Reebok.

Although financial specifics are currently unknown, the deal is rumored to be the largest for an incoming rookie in NFL history, surpassing the $1 million adidas gave Reggie Bush in 2006. It is reported that Under Armour will unveil an entire collection for Newton that will include a signature shoe, football and training gear, and jerseys with his name on the back.

Newton is arguably became the most identifiable athlete of the brand in the company’s 15-year history, typically wearing 17 Under Armour logos each Saturday during the season. Cam will be joining NFL athletes like Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, Miles Austin, Anquan Boldin and Peyton Hillis. Many critics argue Cam Newton will not be the same star he was in the NFL as he was in College, what do you think?
